Well, I have to go pass a piss test some time today (even if I had anything untoward in my system, the caffeine would probably weigh it out, so I'm rather unconcerned about that), but other than that, it's all set.
It's the almost-local LFI, the result of a recent merger between more of a Bank and more of a Financial Institution. (Hint: you probably get credit card offers from them. Well, those of you in the US do anyway.) They're mostly based in a large midwestern city, have a technical base in Columbus, Ohio, where I'll be for one month, starting 9 August (don't try nothin', I've got a house-sitter whose attack-cat I've been cat-sitting for the past month and a half and who'd otherwise be couch-surfing till he starts NYU Law this fall). Thereafter I'll work out of a Wilmington, Delaware office. The project is primarily geared toward backup & recover, but also storage more generally, and probably will have something to do with a redundant (means "two") data center buildout in the Wilmington area. I will get to play with many shiny toys with TLAs writ large upon them, and I will grit my teeth and bear further interaction with Veritas NetBackup.
This decision means that the will of the people won out in reality too, not just lj. The close-running there, though, is tellingly similar to my difficulty in deciding. The ISP in Coudersport is doing just about everything right (now that they're past that accounting scandal business ;^>--but seriously, I'm talking about the quality of the data center space, cost-of-living, amount they offered, quality of people with whom I'd have been working, so on)... except location. I just couldn't get myself past that. It's definitely not that I don't want to move (no matter how much of a pain that would be, and what worldly goods I'd have to ditch in the process, "stuff" is only barely more important to me than "money past my comfortable living threshold"), but that I don't want to move there.
Thanks to all and sundry who helped, chatted with, and advised me over the past month.

If you have any questions about Columbus, I'm in a suburb thereof, so might be able to shed some light.
Good luck.
